What we're working towards

SOLAR is a young foundation. We build step by step: first the knowledge, then small trials, and only then something bigger. Our policy plan for 2026–2029 sets out three phases. You can see them below, exactly as they are in the plan.

These are goals, not promises. The board reviews progress every year.

Phase 1: Start-up phase (years 1–2)

The years count from when the foundation was set up.

  • Setting up the board and organisation

  • Developing the digital archive

  • Agreeing frameworks for collaboration

  • Starting pilot projects

Where we are now:

  • Setting up the board and organisation → Done. The board has a chair, a secretary and a treasurer.

  • The digital archive, archive.solar, is online but still very much in development. → In progress.

  • Agreeing frameworks for collaboration → Being explored.

  • Starting pilot projects → Being explored.

Phase 2: Expansion phase (year 3 onwards)

  • Scaling up research

  • Strengthening our volunteer structure

  • Making our funding sustainable

  • Publishing more of what we learn

Phase 3: Continuity phase

  • Safeguarding quality and transparency

  • Reviewing our policy regularly

  • Embedding our work in society for the long term
