How we treat each other

At SOLAR, people from very different backgrounds work together. Technicians, makers, students, researchers and people who simply want to help. That only works if everyone feels welcome and safe. That's why we agree on a few clear things.

These agreements apply to everyone who takes part in SOLAR: volunteers, board members, interns and anyone who shares ideas or proposes a project. They apply online, at meetings and anywhere you act on behalf of SOLAR.

What we expect from each other

  • Respect. You treat everyone with respect, whatever their background, opinion or experience.

  • Open and honest. You say so when you don't know something or when something isn't working. Making mistakes is fine; we learn from them.

  • Together. You help each other, share what you know and give others room to take part.

  • Careful with knowledge. What we publish has to be right. You name your sources and don't copy other people's work without credit.

  • Careful with data. You handle other people's personal data with care and don't share it without permission.

  • A promise is a promise. You let us know how much time you have, and you tell us if that changes.

Online

  • You stay friendly, even when you disagree. Criticising ideas is fine; personal attacks are not.

  • You don't share other people's messages, photos or details outside the group without their permission.

  • You only speak on behalf of SOLAR if you have agreed this with the board.

At meetings and in practice

  • You follow the safety instructions that come with an activity.

  • Not sure whether something is safe? Then you stop and ask first.

  • You leave the place tidy and use materials sparingly.

What's not okay

  • Intimidation, bullying, discrimination or threats, in any form.

  • Unwanted touching or sexual remarks.

  • Leaving someone out or making fun of them.

  • Knowingly putting others in danger.

  • Using the foundation's money, things or data for yourself.

Something not right? Tell us

Has something happened to you that isn't okay, or have you seen it happen to someone else? Then we'd like to hear about it. You don't need to know whether it's "bad enough".

You can report it to any board member. Email contact@stichting.solar, call +31 6 20 19 15 12, or go straight to a board member of your choice. You can see who is on the board on Board.

What happens after you report something:

  • We treat your report confidentially.

  • We get in touch with you and talk together about what's needed.

  • Is your report about someone on the board? Then that person is not involved in handling it.

If someone doesn't keep to these agreements, we'll talk to them about it. In serious or repeated cases, the board can decide that someone can no longer take part.
